Description

The Pinnacles themselves. Long way on shingle road to start of track. After going through locked gate you take a shingle track along the river, occasionally going into the riverbed. Few large puddles unless its been dry for a while, few small fords. Later climb up over a small hill and drop down into valley with a lodge which can be booked out for accommodation. From this point on you enter a rocky riverbed and cross the river. Can turn upstream for quite a distance into DOC land and to a couple of huts or downstream, through some bogs and across flats to enter another river and go up to the pinnacles themselves. Can return down river to meet track before the hill. Very scenic! Suitable for Shinies but challenging enough for anyone. Length above is very approximate.
Looking west to the type of sceneryThere is one large wet area to work through, choose a path with a gentle exit
