removable wince install

By ladeda - Posted on 11 January 2012

So supper cheap had a sale on all there 4wd gear, so tricked the wife into letting me buy a 9500lb winch.  Heaps of overkill for the little lada but went this way just incase one day i decide to get rid of niva, I will still have the winch for the next vehicle.

Decided to make it removable just to eliminate any WOF issues and keep the winch out of the eliments so It lasts longer. I had also already mounted two spotlights ex suppercheep auto sale special ($40 + some wire and a relay). as you can already tell I like supper cheap :P:P:P. I wanted to keep the spotties where they were just cos Thats what I wanted to do.

Realising there was bugger all in the way of bolts actually holding the bullbar and bumper on to the front of the car, set about looking for ways to solve this problem. Steeling the ideas from booger. I went with making the round bumber bar supert holes into squar holes allowing 50x50x3mm box section to slide up the guts. then welded 60mm worth of the old round bar to the box section to allow the use of the origional bolt to be utilised.

Used a couple of m14 8.8tensile bolts with washers and nylock nuts to bolt horisontially through the chassey and the bull bar plat that conveniently sits flush against it. the added two more m10 bots infront of the vallance to againg secure the bullbar to the box section.

Added a 50x50 box as a x brace that sits behind the bumper to help suport sideways pulling. bolted a couple tow hooks to the lower part of the bumper. added another round bar behind the first one and welded in a reciver that I made out of some large box section wich I then welded two pieces of angel iron to the inside of, giving a nice tight fit. The only reson I did this Is because I just could not, for the life of me, get hold of some 65X65X6mm box, which is as im told by various tow bar manufactures what is used comoninly for making removable tow couplings. Im actually happier with the way ive done it as it provides less clearence, so the winch doesent wobbel around at all.

Gave it all a quick paint job and made the holes to put the bumber back on in the origional position. also cleaned up and killed and painted over a bit of rust lurking behind the front grill. and around the front of the chassey.

finaly made the winch mount out of a peice of 8mm plate ,some angle iron, some strips of steel, and 50x50x6mm box. welded it all together and there you have it. a wince thats removable.
